Board Meeting - March 21, 2016

Call to Order:  LCCCCTA Committee Chairperson Dolly Robinson called the meeting to order at 5:35 PM.  Members in attendance included Glenn Hunter, Laura Hunter, Linda Williams, Nelson Rivera, Tom Moore, Dolly Robinson, Joe Hinkle, Marsha Kazmierski, John Lear and Mike Null.  Also in attendance from the Florida USTA was Linda Curtis and George English.Approval of Minutes:  Minutes of the meeting held Feb. 22, 2016 were previously distributed by email. Motion by Tom Moore to approve the minutes, seconded by Joe Hinkle; motion carried unanimously.New Business:  Mrs. Robinson reported that the Tennis Clinic held on March 20th at Tennis Forever Academy had approximately 50 in attendance.  She gave a special thanks to Anjan Viplav for use of the facility and for all of the volunteers who came to assist with the clinic.Mr. Hunter gave an update regarding the tennis facility planning from both the County and the TDC.  He indicated the LCCCTA will need to give a presentation on the proposed facility plan before the County Sports Committee some time in the near future; date not set yet.Linda Curtis, Foundation Executive Director for the Florida USTA provided information on grants for a new tennis facility.  A total of $30,000 could be funded from USTA for our project.  Ms. Curtis was very enthused about the project.  USTA can provide technical assistance on construction of the facility with special emphasis on liability issues.  One requirement is that some of the courts be marked for the smaller 36 foot courts for children.  Ms. Curtis indicated that grant money in Florida comes from the sale of the tennis license tags and encouraged everyone to support the program.George English, Tennis Program Coordinator with Florida USTA explained programs and equipment that could be provided to schools for tennis programs.  Training can also be provided to P.E. teachers for the program.  Cost of the program is $35.00 for membership in the USTA, equipment is free as long as it is used.  Board members agreed to sponsor schools in Columbia County for those schools interested in having a tennis program.  Marsha Kazmierski will coordinate the project.  Dolly Robinson volunteered to support Summers Elementary and to pay for their membership into the USTA.Laura Hunter reported there were 282 membership applications that had been received.Treasurer’s Report:  Joe Hinkle reported that $900.00 in donations had been recorded and a total of $64.20 had been expended since the last report for banner printing.Web Site and Facebook:  Mike Null reported that Adam Crocker is working on the website which is about 50% complete; should be up before the next meeting. Ms. Robinson requested to post some photos of the clinic on the FB page.Next Meeting:  Ms. Robinson announced the next meeting date for April 18th, 5:30 PM.There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:10 PM.
