Board Meeting — 4/10/23
Call to Order: President Dolly Robinson called the Board meeting to order at 5:38 PM.
Members in attendance included the following: Dolly Robinson, Mike Null, Joe Hinkle, Liza Viplav and Laura Null.
Special Guests included: George English of USTA-Florida and Ina Thompson, Mayor of the City of Madison, Florida.
Approval of Minutes: M. Null made a motion to approve the Minutes of the March 13, 2023 Board Meeting; seconded by Joe Hinkle; the motion carried unanimously.
President Robinson and VP Null gave an overview of the history of LCCCTA and its relationship with local government. President Robinson provided Mayor Thompson with copies of the By-Laws and Mission Statement of LCCCTA.
G. English indicated that USTA-Florida had replenished the tennis balls purchased by Coach Mark Mansbach and provided another case. USTA-Florida will continue to provide yellow tennis balls to support the Veterans program (VA Hospital) that is sending typically 12 players every two weeks. Coach Mark is providing tennis instruction at no cost to support the program.
Tallahassee Tennis Challenger will be underway April 16- 23, 2023. 4 local schools will participate in the event.
USTA-Florida continues to support After School Tennis Programs including both Spring and Fall seasons. Tara Bell has already provided a Fall session at Belmont Academy and plans to host another this spring. USTA has already provided the curricula and will provide a coaching stipend of $250 per season.
USTA-Florida will continue to support Special Olympics for young tennis players.
President Robinson distributed an Event Schedule prepared by Linda Williams.
President Robinson submitted an entry for Lizanne Viplav to be awarded the Jimmy Gantt Memorial Award. Will wait to hear the results. G. English is not on the selection committee. President Robinson did not submit an entry for the Champion of Tennis category.
VP Null gave a status update on the grant submitted to Suwannee Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) for the shade structure over the bleachers. SVCF awarded $8,000.00 toward the project that had an estimated cost of $17, 821.35.
The check has already been returned to SVCF. VP Null requested permission to resubmit a revised proposal for installing bench shades that run $650.00 each with the caveat that the ladies who play some three time per week would be in agreement (note: see minutes of March 13, 2023 where Joanne Hinkle made a presentation).
Motion by M. Null to submit revised grant request, seconded by J. Hinkle; motion carried unanimously.
Treasurer Joe Hinkle provided a current financial statement showing a bank balance of $1,568.70.
Liza Viplav inquired about needing more low compression, green dot balls.
Permission granted to J. Hinkle to order a case using the LCCCTA credit card.
President D. Robinson: Summer Tennis Camp to begin May 30th; Adrienne Foreman has agreed to coach again one group per day. She will be assisted by Tara Bell and her son, along with LCCCTA volunteers.
President D. Robinson adjourned meeting at 7:00 PM.
