Board Meeting – April 8, 2019

Call to Order: President Dolly Robinson called the meeting to order at 5:42 PM. Members in attendance included the following: Dolly Robinson, Mike Null, Joe Hinkle, Nelson Rivera, LauraHunter, Laura Null, Marcia Kazmierski, Recie Davis, Linda Williams, and USTA Florida representatives George English and Leigh Chak.Approval of Minutes: Motion was made by M. Kazmierski to approve the minutes of March 11, 2019 as presented; seconded by M. Null. The motion carried unanimously.Old Business: L. Williams reported on behalf of Liza Viplav and her communication with schools in Columbia County, sharing the USTA SHAPE PE tennis curriculum lesson plans. Summers Elementary started their afterschool program, introducing eye coordination. L. Viplav is awaiting responses from 2-3 private schools.M. Null gave a status report on the tennis court construction planned by the City of Lake City; he reported playground equipment to the west of the current courts has been moved. Also, he believes the necessary permitting is now awaiting SRWMD approval. M. Null is hopeful we will have 2 new (as well as 2 renovated) tennis courts by Fall.M. Null provided an update on the CHS boys and girls tennis teams. Coach Tom Moore is developing underclassmen boys for next year’s tennis season. Both teams need support from the community at their tennis matches.New Business: G. English shared the Tally Tennis Challenger (no qualifying) Tournament will be held in Tallahassee the week of April 22nd and will be celebrating its 20th year as an event.G. English also told the group that USTA’s Florida section will be promoting the State Special Olympics by hosting adaptive tennis on the USTA national campus in Orlando in early May.L. Chak distributed flyers titled “Love to Learn-Love to Play”. The CTA plans to begin the 12-week program in the Fall with 2 adult groups, 6 participants per group, playing tennis at least an hour each week. The event will be advertised 3-4 weeks prior to the program beginning via the local newspaper, Facebook, and the LCCCTA website. It was discussed that advance payments of $10 per week should be charged to cover the cost of the tennis instruction.L. Chak said she will be sure our CTA volunteers receive an electronic copy of the Mentor Booklet and the ROGY Chart. L. Chak also distributed a USTA flyer for the NTRP Singles/Doubles Championship which will be held as close as the Jonesville Tennis Center on April 27-29. The tournament is for qualifiers in Florida for Nationals and winners advance to Nationals.M. Null requested $500 grant funding from Pierce Kelley of the Youth Tennis Foundation (YTF) for our upcoming summer camp. It was approved and our CTA is extremely appreciative of the generous funding and extraordinary support from YTF over the past few years. YTF has funding to support Junior Team Tennis (JTT); however, the new and renovated tennis courts will be necessary before our CTA can initiate the program. In addition, we would need to have a group of young players who have been developed through tennis instruction and/or tennis clinics.L. Williams provided the following 2019 Summer Tennis Camp dates for the Boys/Girls Clubs, Richardson Community Center, and the general public: 6/14, 6/21, 6/28, and 7/12.The location will be Youngs Park and the times are as follows:*9-11am for the Boys/Girls Clubs*11am-12pm for the general public*1-2pm for Richardson Community Center participants (who will be transported to Youngs Park)A final Summer Tennis Challenge event will be held from 9-11am on July 19th for all summer program participants.L. Williams will register the event on the Net Generation website and also advertise the event in the local newspaper, our LCCCTA website, and Facebook.D. Robinson asked group to set the Adult Tennis Social date/time in May. L. Hunter believes that Sunday afternoon at 4pm will be the best day/time. According to the group, May 19 th is first choice and May 5th is 2nd choice. All participants can bring appetizers/beverages for the event.L. Williams will contact L. Viplav to see if Tennis Forever is willing to host the May tennis event, and if so, determine the best date for them.Treasurer’s Report: J. Hinkle reported that the account balance is currently $1,153.36. A contribution of $50 was given in memory of John Danielson; not reflected in the total. Also, a $70 check will be issued to cover the cost of the 2019 Annual Report.Next meeting scheduled for May 13, 2019.President Robinson adjourned the meeting at 7:04 PM.
