Call to Order/Welcome:
President Mike Null called the Board Meeting to order at 5:36 PM and thanked the group for attending. He welcomed Board members in attendance: Laura Hunter-Null, Joe Hinkle, Linda Williams, and Michael Ammundsen.
Guests:
No guests were present.
Approval of Minutes:
L. Null made a motion to approve the Minutes of the March 10th Board Meeting; seconded by M. Ammundsen, and the motion carried unanimously.
The following topics were approved on May 12, 2025 via email vote by LCCCTA Board Members:
Coach Mark Mansbach rate of pay increase from $30 to $40 per hour for clinics/camps he conducts for LCCCTA.
Two previous high school tennis players assist with leading our 3-week Summer Camp’s beginner group, requesting they each be paid $20 per hour.
Utilize our available (and unused) Adult League account funding ($167.23) for LCCCTA’s upcoming ‘Love to Learn/ Love to Play’ adult program.
Grant Application to Suwannee Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) in the amount of $1,300.00 for the purchase of Shelving Units for Storage and replacement of 4 sets of windscreens. (Grant to be considered at the SVCF meeting on May 12, 2025)
Purchase a new LCCCTA court banner and approve the purchase of revised/updated LCCCTA business cards (Total cost of $240)
Purchase a new tennis net and caddy for Court 3 for a cost of $275
President M. Null reported he received a $1300 check from a Suwannee Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) grant. Mr. Patrick Douglas is president of the Foundation. This was the third time LCCCTA received grant funding from SVCF, and this check will cover the cost of necessary windscreen replacements, and also shelving to store tennis equipment in the tennis shelter.
President M. Null reminded the Board that our community tennis association exists because of funding we receive for youth programs. Continual contact with local city and county elected officials is necessary so tennis facilities will be budgeted. Maintaining and resurfacing the courts are necessary for players’ safety.
Currently, President M. Null has requested an estimate to resurface the courts, as they only have an approximate life span of 5-6 years. Young’s Park tennis courts are almost 4 1/2 years old. M. Null has been told there is no funding set aside for facility maintenance by the City of Lake City, so he plans to meet with the City District Councilwoman in Spring 2026 to assist with budget planning.
USTA will be willing to provide up to 50% of the funding for a Category 2 resurfacing OR $8,000 per court. However, the grant funding may require that one half of all facility courts (2 of 4 courts) will need to have blended lines for ages 10 and under, shortening the 78’ court to 60 feet.
L. Williams provided the group a contact list for 2025-2026 LCCCTA Board of Directors, to include Ex-Officio members, and Officers.
A report was given by L. Williams regarding an event that was planned to recognize and express gratitude to Mark Mansbach; held on April 1st at 3:15 PM—just prior to the beginning of LCCCTA’s Spring Youth Tennis Camp. Veterans attended the event, along with friends, family, and tennis players.
Refreshments were enjoyed and M. Null Proclaimed it was “Coach Mark Day”, providing a framed certificate to Coach Mark. Prior to the event, a ramp was constructed by Rudy Howell for the Tennis HQ, making it easier for Coach Mark to roll the tennis ball carts out of the building.
L. Williams said the after-school Spring Youth Camp was three weeks in duration, beginning April 1 and ending with a Tennis Challenge party on April 17. There were 21 participants. Coach Mark Mansbach directed the tennis youth camp and special LCCCTA volunteers assisted in coaching the three ability level groups.
L. Williams reported that on May 1st , LCCCTA celebrated its 10th Anniversary (2015-2025). Past President, Dolly Robinson, and VP/Secretary Linda Williams and Ex-Officio Board Member, Erin Weiffenbach, planned and implemented the event.
President M. Null addressed the community guests providing the history of the association, and recognized founding members. During the presentation, a slide presentation displayed photos of tennis activities and events throughout the ten years.
Chick-fil-A refreshments were generously provided by LCCCTA Board Member, Michael Sexton. A men’s doubles exhibition match was a highlight of the Celebration, as four top tennis players displayed their skills: Patrick Douglas, Brad Neal, Jay Penney, and Johnny Young.
The 8th Annual Montgomery Junior Summer Tennis Camp is currently in session; three weeks in duration, beginning June 3rd and will end on June 19th with a Tennis Challenge party on the final day.
Coach Mark Mansbach is directing the morning tennis camp and there are currently 30 participants registered for the summer camp. No fee waivers were submitted in lieu of the $25 fee per participant. Volunteers include current and past CHS tennis players, long-time players, as well as LCCCTA Board Members, coaching the three ability-level groups.
L. Williams said she reminded business and family sponsors who purchased banners supporting LCCCTA that annual fee renewals will be due by June 30th.
M. Ammundsen suggested LCCCTA consider having a men’s / women’s tennis ladder to increase publicity. Possibly, a weekend round robin draw. M. Null agreed the presence will have an impact and we should do this.
Treasurer J. Hinkle provided a current financial report showing a bank balance of $4,307.02. The general account has a balance of $1,662.32, the YTF account contains $2,407.47, and the Adult League account has a $167.23 balance.
President M. Null reminded the Board that donor funding is necessary, prior to starting any LCCCTA events / programs.
L. Null made a motion to approve the Financial Report; L. Williams seconded the motion, and the motion carried unanimously.
J. Hinkle inquired if the court divider net could be returned since it wasn’t needed and President M. Null said he will check with the tennis equipment distributor.
New Business:
President M. Null asked M. Ammundsen to discuss his idea of providing a tennis ball machine. M. Ammundsen explained the heavy battery-operated ball machine belongs to Coach Mark Mansbach, but he placed it on a cart that can be rolled in and out of the pro shop to the tennis courts.
M. Ammundsen’s idea is that it could possibly be rented to the public for a fee. It could be used in lieu of a tennis lesson. M. Null added it could also be a teaching tool Coach Mark Mansbach could use in lieu of feeding tennis balls during his lessons.
M. Ammundsen will ask Coach Mark Mansbach if he would like to charge a fee to cover the cost of maintaining and setting up the ball machine for players. If so, L. Williams will contact Coach Mark Mansbach regarding publicizing ball machine details on the LCCCTA website and social media.
President M. Null said he would like for LCCCTA to provide a ‘Love to Learn/Love to Play Program’ in the fall of this year. The new USTA FL representative may be able to assist, as well as Coordinator, Megan Frederick.
President M. Null thanked everyone for attending and expressed appreciation to Guy Williams for use of the conference room. He adjourned the meeting at 7:11 PM.
Next tentative meeting scheduled for Monday, August 11, 2025 at 5:30 PM.
