Board Meeting – July 8, 2019

Call to Order: President Dolly Robinson called the meeting to order at 5:39 PM.Members present included: Dolly Robinson, Mike Null, Joe Hinkle, Richard Johnson, Liza Viplav, Nelson Rivera and USTA representatives George English and Leigh Chak.Minutes of the Board Meeting held on May 13, 2019; motion by M. Null to approve as presented, seconded by J. Hinkle. Motion carried unanimously.President Robinson reported on the LCCCTA social held on May 19, 2019 at the Tennis Forever facility. Appreciation was given to Liza and Anjan Viplav for allowing the use of the facility.President Robinson gave an update on the summer tennis clinics for youth being held on Friday’s at Young’s Park to include participants from Boys/Girls Clubs,Richardson Community Center and the general public. The next two will be held July 12th and July 19th. The July 19th will include Team Challenge with L. Chak attending.M. Null gave an update on the grant request and funding approval from Youth Tennis Foundation of Florida (YTF). Funding was received in the amount of $1, 500 that will be used for expenses related to a Youth Team Tennis event slated to beheld in the Fall following completion of the four new tennis courts in Young’s Park.M. Null gave a brief report regarding the Bahamas Mission trip that included a Sports Camp during the last week of June. The LCCCTA had previously granted permission for use of a Net Generation bag of equipment to use for a tennis clinic while there. Children ages 8-12 were taught basic tennis skills by Mike and Laura Null, assisted by other volunteers. A full report and photos will be provided to L. Chak for USTA, as well as our organization’s webmaster.G. English informed the CTA that the insurance liability rates purchased through the USTA’s provider will increase from $205 to $225 effective with renewals in January 2020.G. English reported that Florida PE Teachers would no longer be required to go through the USTA background checks or watching the required videos in order to complete the Net Generation program application; but they would still have to register on line to participate in the program and receive the Net Generation startup equipment.Florida USTA will be conducting a pilot program with ten teachers for a Family Play,including an After School Program for a seven week period.L. Viplav reported that New Generation Christian School (a private school in Columbia County) has now registered with Net Generation of USTA for the SHAPE PE tennis program.L. Chak would like to see our CTA to begin hosting adult tennis clinics under the Love to Learn/Love to Play program. The USTA can provide all of the promotion.This program targets adults (mixed) that would be at the 2.5 level or beginners. Registration would be setup through Eventbrite. It would include six weeks of instruction, one night per week, followed by a six-week mentorship program. It was tentatively agreed to host at Tennis Forever starting in September before the Youth Team Tennis begins in the Fall. Final planning to be completed at our next meeting.J. Hinkle gave a Treasurer’s Report indicating that following the deposit of the received grant from YTF in the amount of $1,500, the account balance would be $3,133.63. All checks have cleared to date.President Robinson announced the next meeting is set for August 12, 2019.There being no further formal business, President Robinson adjourned the meeting at 7:00 PM.
