Celebrating Parks & Recreation Month: Young’s Park

As we celebrate Parks and Recreation Month this July, USTA Florida is proud to highlight Young’s Park in Lake City, a dynamic public space where tennis is thriving, and community spirit is alive and well.

Young’s Park has long been a favorite for families and athletes alike, offering everything from playgrounds and basketball courts to racquetball and open green space. But it’s the park’s state-of-the-art tennis complex that’s making waves in the local community.

Once home to just two courts, Young’s Park underwent a major transformation several years ago. The city renovated the original courts and added two more, creating a four-court tennis facility that has become a cornerstone for tennis in Columbia County. This long-awaited vision has elevated the park’s offerings and helped tennis growth in the area.

At the heart of this growth is the Lake City Columbia Community Tennis Association (LCCCTA), a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to making tennis accessible, inclusive, and fun for all. Through a wide range of junior and adult clinics, events, and community programs, LCCCTA has helped foster a welcoming environment where players of all ages and skill levels can thrive.

Young’s Park has many tennis instructors, who all play a key role in developing players and nurturing a love for the game.

As Lake City continues to invest in its parks and recreational spaces, Young’s Park stands as a shining example of what’s possible when a community comes together around a shared passion.

This July, we celebrate not just the courts, but the people and programs that make them come alive.
